Atelier Tan is the work space for Tan WeiKeong. WeiKeong is a designer and an artist. Born in Singapore in 1982, he completed his diploma in Product and Industrial Design in 2003. In 2016 he enrolled at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam to study Ceramic in Fine Arts and graduated in 2016. He now lives and works in Gloucestershire, UK.
For Wei Keong, the relationship between Nature and Man (Culture) is the centre of investigative topic for his works. Wei Keong sees the development and implementation of technologies to tamper with bio-diversity as a way of humanity fulfilling its vanities and powers to reverse the climate crisis.
At the same time Wei Keong believes that the evolution has made man ever more separated from other organisms and ecosystems. In understanding this tension of Man’s unsatisfiable hunger to be in command, WeiKeong translates these ideas into his works of clay and relates them to the world he sees.
