Helen Ward.

About Helen.

Helen creates exquisite and unique pieces of art as part of her beautiful Paper Entemology series of work. Helen’s craftsmanship is at the very highest level, developed over many years of hard work and founded in her traditional training as a bookbinder and paper engineer.

Helen’s work was born from a very rare collection of hand-marbled papers that were beautifully designed and created in the Victorian era and were acquired by Helen during her time working at the bindery. Cocooned for years, Helen caringly selects individual pieces of paper and with delicate precision cuts each piece to create the butterflies, moths, beetles and bugs that feature in her artwork.

The combination of paper, hand made over 100 years ago, together with the intricate craftsmanship applied to it today means this artwork has a living, breathing history all of its own.

Helen has exhibited her work at a number of venues across the UK, as well as taking part in shows all over the world. She says she will never get bored of cutting the intricate pieces as the paper is all so beautiful. All works are preserved with acid-free mounts in bespoke frames with conservation grade glass to protect the delicate papers.
